Description

Poli Grit®: Sealer and Polish for Non-Skid areas on Boat

Poli Grit® was developed by Boat owners who were frustrated with stained, oxidized, and worn non-skid areas on their vessels. This innovative product recreates the textured non-skid surface and transforms high-traffic surfaces on your Boat into durable and visually appealing areas. Poli Grit® increases traction, seals the surface, providing superior protection, and restores a high gloss shine to your non-skid surfaces.

With Poli Grit®, you no longer have to deal with sticky fish debris, unsightly rust stains, chalky gelcoats, or ingrained sand.

**What's Included in the Kit:**
- Poli Grit® Bottle A: A textured sealer to recreate the traction on the non-skid areas.
- Poli Grit® Bottle B: A durable polish and restorer that seals the surface, protecting it from oxidation, dirt, oil, moisture, and harmful UV radiation, and provides an unparalleled high gloss shine.
- 1 Roller Handle
- 2 Short Nap Roller Covers
- 1 Pan

Coverage

The Poli Grit® kit covers up to 50 square feet of non-skid areas.

Please note that Poli Grit® is NOT intended for use on your Boat's hull or any areas that are not stepped on occasionally.

Application

Before using Poli Grit®, prepare the Boat's non-skid areas with Poli Prep® and Poli Ox® to remove oxidation and stains, similar to how you would treat the hull.

Poli Grit® is applied in a straightforward two-step process:
Step 1: Use Bottle A to add texture and grip, enhancing safety where it is needed most.
Step 2: Use Bottle B to seal the gelcoat of the non-skid areas, protecting them from oxidation, stains, and wear.

**Directions for Use**:
1. Moisten one of the nap roller covers with water and wring out the excess until it is damp but not soaked. Attach it to the roller handle.
2. Shake Poli Grit® Bottle A well and pour several ounces into the tray. Refill as needed.
3. Moisten the roller with the solution, ensuring it is damp but not soaked.
4. Apply one coat to the surface. If bubbles appear, lightly roll over them with the roller. Allow 10-15 minutes for this coat to dry. Repeat if more texture is desired.
5. Wash out the tray with warm water and let it drain.
6. Moisten a second nap roller cover and attach it to the roller handle. Shake Poli Grit® Bottle B well and pour several ounces into the tray. Refill as needed.
7. Moisten the roller with the solution, but do not soak it.
8. Apply 10 thin coats of Bottle B, allowing several minutes for each coat to dry between applications.
9. Allow 48 hours for the Poli Grit® to fully cure before use.

Maintenance

When Poli Grit® is first applied, it can last up to a year or even longer under optimal conditions. It's essential to understand that Poli Grit® is not designed for a one-time application. Like any surface exposed to the elements, the Poli Grit® surface will naturally oxidize over time. To maintain its exceptional finish and prevent oxidation, we strongly recommend applying a few maintenance coats of Poli Grit® annually. This approach will safeguard your investment and eliminate the need for extensive prep work down the line.

With regular maintenance, you can confidently expect Poli Grit® to last between five to six years, significantly reducing the frequency of heavy prep work.

We recommend washing your Boat once a year with Poli Wash® and reapplying one coat of Poli Grit® from bottle A, followed by 3-4 coats from bottle B to maintain that brilliant glossy shine. Keep in mind that the number of maintenance coats you require may vary by location, with Boats in humid, equatorial climates needing more frequent attention.

You should consider purchasing a Poli Grit® Kit if:
- The non-skid areas of your Boat show signs of oxidation that need sealing and protection.
- The non-skid surfaces are worn and require additional texture for optimal traction.
- You've previously purchased a Poli Grit® Kit, but your non-skid area exceeds 50 square feet.
- It's time to incorporate maintenance applications into your non-skid areas.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure the optimal performance and longevity of your Boat’s surfaces.

FAQ

How should I properly prepare the surface before applying Poli Glow products?

Proper surface preparation is essential to our restoration system:

  • For first-time applications: Remove any oxidation by preparing the surface with Poli Prep™ and Poli Ox™ before applying Poli Glow®. A properly prepared surface should look uniformly dull, without color changes or blotches.
  • For maintenance applications: Wash and dry the surface first with Poli Wash™. Remove any waxes or detailing products by adding Poli Wash Pro™.

Detailed preparation steps:

  1. Put on disposable gloves to protect your hands
  2. Cover ink-printed or silk-screen decals and graphics with plastic and tape
  3. Wet the surface of your RV with water
  4. Dilute Poli Prep™ concentrate at a 3:1 ratio of water to product in a trigger spray bottle
  5. Spray the solution onto the surface and scrub vigorously with the non-abrasive scrub pad, then rinse thoroughly with water
  6. If you have heavy oxidation and/or stains, then we recommend using Poli Ox after using Poli Prep
  7. Start by using Poli Ox with our Non-abrasive Scrub Pad, and if oxidation/stains persist, use Poli Ox with our Ultra-Fine Sanding Pads -DO NOT use our Ultrafine Sanding Pads on decals or painted surfaces.
  8. If you have severe oxidation you may need to employ wet sanding.

Where can I find more detailed instructions or guidance on using Poli Glow products?

Multiple resources are available:

How To Poli Glow Instructional Videos, Maintaining Poli Glow Video Series, Poli Glow Application & Maintenance Guide, Poli Glow Coating Chart -have links for all of these

How much product do I need for my RV, boat, or specific vehicle size?

Coverage guidelines:

  • One Poli Glow® Kit will usually cover about 2000  square feet of surface area, or around a 28-foot RV
  • If your RV is longer than 28 feet, or you have more than 2000  square feet of surface to cover, you will need additional bottles of Poli Glow®, Poli Prep™ , and Poli Ox.

My Poli Glow application looks streaky. How can I fix this?

Common Causes of Streaks and Solutions:

  • Poli Glow® hardened onto the mitt during use: Soak the mitt overnight in a resealable bag containing a mix of 1 part Poli Prep: 3 parts water. The next day, rinse the mitt thoroughly with water and allow it to air dry.
  • Not enough coats were applied: The first 3-4 coats of Poli Glow may look dull or streaky. We recommend applying a minimum of 6-8 coats for optimal results, and preferably 8-10 coats if you live in a hot and/or tropical climate
  • Improper surface preparation: Ensure that all surface contaminants are removed prior to applying Poli Glow, including: oxidation, dirt, grime, oils, etc. Poli Prep and Poli Ox are designed to remove these forms of contaminants, however, if you have severe oxidation you may need to employ wet sanding.

Applying in Improper Temperatures: Only apply Poli Glow within a temperature range of 60-95 degrees F.

What is the correct dilution ratio for Poli Prep?

Proper dilution and application:

  • Dilute Poli Prep™ concentrate at 1 part Poli Prep: 3 parts water

What maintenance is required after applying Poli Glow, and how often should it be reapplied?

Maintenance schedule:

  • At least once per year, wash your boat/RV with Poli Wash™ and then apply 3-4 coats of Poli Glow® to maintain the finish
  • Your local climate influences how often you should apply maintenance coats.  For example, Boats and RVs in tropical climates require more frequent maintenance than those in temperate climates
  • Check out our Poli Glow Coating Chart for the most precise coating recommendations for your situation: https://poliglow.com/pages/poli-glow-coating-chart-1
  • If maintained properly, Poli Glow® will last five to six years!!

Can Poli Glow products be applied with a buffer, or is manual scrubbing required?

Poli Glow should not be applied with a buffer. Instead, please apply Poli Glow using either of our two applicators:

Our preparatory cleaners, Poli Prep and Poli Ox should also be applied by hand using either our Non-Abrasive Scrub Pad with Handle and/or our Ultrafine Sanding Pads if you have heavy oxidation. DO NOT use our Ultrafine Sanding Pads on decals or painted surfaces.

Can Poli Glow be used on painted aluminum surfaces, or is it only for fiberglass?

  • Our restoration system works equally well on fiberglass, gelcoat, clear coat, full body paint (FBP), plastic, and painted aluminum. Poli Glow is a water-based restorative coating that should be used on older boats or RVs that are fading or oxidized
  • The classic "stick and tin" rigs are typically painted aluminum and are a great application for Poli Glow. Poli Glow can be used on almost any recreational vehicle, camper, or trailer.

What is Poli Ox and do I need it?

  • Poli Ox™ is a concentrated cleaning formula containing oxalic acid that loosens and removes moderate to heavy oxidation
  • For stubborn areas, you may use it in combination with our Ultra-fine Sanding Pads
  • If oxidation is severe, you may need to wetsand

Can Poli Glow products be used in direct sunlight or specific weather conditions?

Poli Glow may be used in direct sunlight under certain conditions, though please keep the following things in mind:

  • The surface temperature should not exceed 95 degrees F
  • Darker colors absorb more heat than lighter colors
  • Poli Glow will dry much quicker in direct sunlight and even evaporate if the surface temperature is too high
  • While not required, an infrared thermometer is a very helpful tool to have on hand

Other Weather Considerations:

  • Do not apply Poli Glow if rain is forecasted within 24-48 hours
  • Check the Dew Point* for your area and do not apply Poli Glow if there is a high chance of dew forming overnight
  • *Dew Point= the temperature at which the air becomes completely saturated with water vapor and the vapor begins to condense into liquid water. DO NOT apply Poli Glow if the forecasted low temperature will be at or below the Dew Point.
  • Please consult your local weather channel or Google for the dew point in your area

How do I remove Poli Glow or correct blemishes in the finish?

  • To remove a blemish in the finish, you can use either Poli Strip or Poli Ox

1. Put on vinyl or plastic disposable gloves to protect your hands.

2. If using Poli Strip concentrate:

a. Dilute three parts water to one part product (3:1) in a trigger sprayer.

b. Mist a clean towel with Poli Strip and wipe the affected area gently until the blemish is removed, repeating

as necessary and flip the towel occasionally.

c. Allow to air dry.

d. Do not rinse with water as this can affect the finish on the surface below.

3. If using Poli Ox:

a. Use the white non-abrasive scrub pad if the blemish is minimal. Use the ultra-fine sanding pad if the scratch is deeper, if there is heavier oxidation, or if there are any flaking areas.

b. Moisten the scrub pad with water and sprinkle Poli Ox onto the pad. Gently rub Poli Ox into the pad to prevent it from spilling onto the ground.

c. Wet the affected area with water and scrub until the imperfection has been removed.

d. Repeat the process as necessary, rinsing with water in between.

4. Remove enough Poli Glow to erase staining or remove oxidation, or smooth out the edges of any scratches so that the transition zone of the scratch will not be visible when Poli Glow is reapplied.

5. Reapply Poli Glow. Shake the bottle well and apply a minimum of 3-4 coats of Poli Glow.

If it was necessary to remove all of the Poli Glow to eliminate the blemish, reapply 8-10 coats

Is Poli Glow compatible with existing wax or other sealants on my vehicle?

  • All waxes or previous coatings MUST be removed PRIOR to applying Poli Glow
  • Poli Prep and Poli Ox are designed to remove wax and ceramic/wax detailing sprays prior to applying Poli Glow
  • Waxes and ceramic/wax detailing sprays may be applied over Poli Glow after it has cured for 24-48 hours.
  • We recommend applying our ceramic spray, Poli Slick Seal, over your Poli Glow finish for additional UV protection and increased hydrophobicity!
  • If you apply Poli Slick Seal over your Poli Glow finish, please note that it will need to be removed prior to applying maintenance coats
  • You can remove Poli Slick Seal without harming your Poli Glow finish by using our Poli Wash additive, Poli Wash Pro: https://poliglow.com/products/poli-wash-pro-stain-remover

What cleaners are safe to use on my Poli Glow finish?

  • You should only use “Poli Glow-approved” products to wash your Poli Glow finish.
  • These include:
  • Poli Wash
  • Poli Wash Pro
  • pH neutral soap without wax
  • DO NOT USE degreasers, harsh cleaners, pressure washers on your Poli Glow finish
  • AVOID truck washes

Will Poli Glow or Poli Ox damage bottom paint on boats?

  • Avoid contact with bottom paint
  • Cover bottom paint and ink-printed graphics with plastic and tape during application

What is the recommended application method for Poli Glow to ensure a smooth, even finish?

Recommended application process:

  1. Moisten the Poli-Mitt™ Applicator with water and wring it out so that it is damp and not soaking wet
  2. Shake the mitt well, and drizzle several lines of Poli Glow® onto the Poli-Mitt™ Applicator
  3. Gently wring to distribute evenly
  4. Do not soak the mitt
  5. Apply thin layers, using very light pressure, and allow each coat to dry thoroughly between applications
  6. Coats take about 30 seconds to a minute to dry
